Where Are Char-Broil Grills Made? (The USA?)

Char-Broil is a well-known US brand, based in Columbus, Georgia. However, their grills are now pretty much entirely made in China.

Char-Broil used to manufacture their products here in the US; however, like many companies, they started to outsource production a few years ago.

Who Makes Char-Broil Grills? (Are They Reputable?)

Char-Broil is an American company that’s been making its grills since the 1940s. It is a division of WC Bradley, the US kitchenware company, and the Char-Broil name was introduced in 1973.

Char-Broil grills are known for being easy to use (and clean) and for heating up quickly. They’re a popular option and are often seen as competitors of Weber’s.

What Products Are in The Char-Broil Grills Collection?

Char-Broil’s main product is grills, and they make a great variety. Choose from gas, electric, and charcoal grills, as well as hybrid and portable models.

The brand also makes smokers and fryers, and if you really want to go for it, they also offer the Medallion Series built-in outdoor kitchen range.

What Size & Weight Are Char-Broil Grills?

With such a large range of grills to choose from, there’s also a broad range of sizes. The two-burner Amplifire gas grill is one of the smallest choices, with an assembled size of 22.4” x 45.3” x 44.5”.

However, the six-burner gas grill in the Performance Series is 20.1” x 45.5” x 57.3” – only a foot longer for a lot more fire power.

If you really want to save space, the cute little portable gas grill is just 16.2” x 13.3” x 24.8” – ideal for camping trips or simply to move around the yard.

The Kettleman traditional kettle grill is a good option if you like charcoal grills and want to save space. It measures just 26” x 30” x 26”, but has a grilling space that can hold 16 burgers or 8 steaks.

The kettle-shaped electric model is a similar size, but with a slightly smaller cooking area of 12 burgers / 6 steaks.

Do Char-Broil Grills Come With a Warranty?

Char-Broil grills do come with a warranty. However, to find out more about this, you have to register your individual Char-Broil product.

Do Char-Broil Grills Also Make Accessories?

Yes, Char-Broil makes accessories for their grills. There are covers to fit all of their range, including the modular outdoor kitchen grills.

You can also pick up a neat hold-all to keep your portable grill in when you’re on the move.

However, it’s their cooking range that really got us interested. Char-Broil has a large range of accessories that expand the cooking functions of their grills.

Pick up a rotisserie or a chicken rack or a pizza stone or a roaster basket… There are lots of ways to adapt your grill.

This makes Char-Broil grills a really versatile choice. Of course, the cost will rack up the more racks you buy, but you may decide it’s worth it to increase your culinary options.

What Do The Reviews Say About Char-Broil Grills?

What do users think of their Char-Broil grills? We took a look at a stainless steel, 4-burner Performance gas grill, that’s currently on sale on Amazon. What do the customer reviews say?

There are over 870 ratings for this product, and it scores 4.4 out of a possible 5 stars. Customers like the stainless steel body and the ease of use, although assembly is mixed (it’s both hard and easy!).

The negative reviews have more to do with the brand’s customer service than the product itself.

How Much Do Char-Broil Grills Cost?

On Char-Broil’s own site, the simplest, 4-burner gas grill starts at around $200.  Their top-of-the-range 4-burner grill will set you back closer to $850.

The difference is style, materials, and functions. It’s worth looking on sites like Amazon, which, for example, has quite significant discounts on some models.

How Do I Use a Char-Broil Grill?

Char-Broil grills are easy to use. Their website also has a great How To page, which covers everything from cooking to cleaning.

Here’s how you get started cooking on a Char-Broil gas grill.

  • Open the lid, and light the burners
  • Set the burners to their highest temperatures
  • Close the lid
  • Preheat for 10 to 15 minutes to make sure that the grill is hot enough for cooking
  • Adjust the burners to the right temperature for your recipe

How about a Char-Broil charcoal grill? It’s the same principle: preheating is essential for a safe and even grill.

  • Light the charcoal
  • Let it burn until the charcoal turns white and ashy
  • Cover the grill with the lid and open the dampers
  • Leave it for about 15 minutes to preheat
  • Grill your food!

Before you use your grill for the first time, it’s a good idea to season it. This helps to prevent rust and keeps your grill easy to clean.

This simply involves lightly brushing the grates with a thin coating of oil, and heating the grill for 15 minutes.

After each use, clean the grill then coat it again with a thin layer of oil. You’ll thank yourself for doing this, the next time you come to use the grill!

Are Char-Broil Grills Easy To Look After?

Char-Broil grills have a good reputation for being easy to care for.

Again, the How-To page on Char-Broil’s website takes you through all the cleaning processes, including detailed jobs such as cleaning the gas burners.

How do you clean a Char-Broil grill? There are two main types of grill cleaning: daily cleans (well, after each use) and deep cleans.

Here’s how to clean your gas grill after each use.

  • After cooking, heat up the grill again for about 15 minutes to get rid of any burnt-in food morsels
  • Leave it to cool, then scrub the grates with a nylon brush. If you don’t have time to wait for it to cool, you can still (carefully!) scrub your grill but with a combi, heat-proof brush
  • If you’re using a grill cleaning product, apply it now and follow the instructions
  • When all the cleaner is removed, you can season the grill grates again using a light coating of cooking oil

What about a deep clean? This is essential at the start and end of each BBQ season; and if you’re using the grill a lot, aim to deep clean it monthly.

  • Follow the process above, up until applying the product
  • Remove the grates and soak them in warm, soapy water. Scrub them again to remove stubborn dirt
  • If the soapy water isn’t working, you can try a solution of vinegar and baking powder instead
  • Thoroughly rinse the grates (as you’re outside, use a hose pipe for speed)
  • Dry them with a soft cloth or towel
  • Season the grill grates again, as we mentioned earlier
  • If you are covering the grill after cleaning it, make sure it’s thoroughly dry first

What about a charcoal grill?

  • When the grill is cool, remove the ashes
  • Take out the grate, and soak and rinse it as above
  • Dust the inside thoroughly, and clean it with soapy water
  • Dry the inside with a cloth or towel
  • Season the grate with a light coating of oil

How Do I Store My Char-Broil Grill?

Char-Broil has one of the best stocks of tailored covers out there, so it makes sense to get hold of one.

Clean and dry your grill thoroughly, before covering it, as we described above. If possible, move it to a safe and dry shed or garage for the winter, or at least, into the most sheltered part of the yard

The fitted outdoor kitchen covers are a real bonus, as these enable you to safely winterize your fitted grill, which isn’t always easy.

Again, clean and dry your grill thoroughly before covering, so you’re not trapping moisture, dirt, and critters inside…

Summary: Where Can I Buy a Char-Broil Grill?

You can pick up this popular brand in most home stores (Home Depot has a good selection) as well as Amazon, as we mentioned earlier.

Of course, you can buy the grills direct from Char-Broil’s own website. If you’re interested in accessories, this is a good place to go, and you should be able to get the correct size of cover from Char-Broil.

All-in-all these are great grills so we’ll definitely be considering one when we come to upgrade our old ones. 🙂
