Are Bromic Patio Heaters Any Good?

Thinking of investing in a high-end patio heater and want the lowdown on Bromic? Read on my friend…

Bromic is an Australian brand that makes high-end infrared patio heaters, and the company now has a US headquarters in Irvine, California. The company has four main collections: Tungsten, Eclipse, Platinum, and Marine, and real reviewers give Bromic patio heaters 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Let’s discover more about the Bromic patio heater brand, and answer every question you’ve ever had about where they are made, product features, usage, and maintenance…

Where Are Bromic Patio Heaters Made? (Are They Made in The USA?)

Bromic is originally an Australian brand (and that’s a good thing, because they truly understand outdoor living!). The company now has a US headquarters in Irvine, California.

It’s a bit tricky to tell exactly where Bromic makes their heaters; however, they do have a large facility in Sydney, Australia.

Who Makes Bromic Patio Heaters? (Will They Stand Behind Their Products?)

Bromic Pty Ltd was established in 1978 in New South Wales, Australia, where the company’s HQ still is to this day. They have expanded globally, and their US headquarters is in Irvine, California.

The company started out as an Australian distributor of global OEM components and has expanded into a leading distributor of plumbing & gas products, commercial refrigeration, and outdoor heating products.

Their outdoor heaters are aimed at the premium end of the market, and they have a reputation for producing quality products.

Here’s a Bromic promotional video – you’ve gotta love those Aussie accents:

What Products Are in The Bromic Patio Heaters Collection?

Bromic makes super-sleek and contemporary-looking patio heaters. These aren’t simply about pumping out heat: they also look fantastic. They also have a range of controls (see: these are definitely sophisticated heaters) and accessories.

The brand has four main collections: Tungsten, Eclipse, Platinum, and Marine. They come with a choice of portable, wall-mounted, flush-mounted, and pole-mounted designs, in stylish black, white, and stainless steel finishes. All look incredibly stylish.

Bromic’s heaters can be powered by natural gas, propane, or electricity, so you can choose a heater that suits your set-up. The brand is famous for its Smart-Heat™ technology, which gives you excellent radiant heat.

Are Bromic Patio Heaters Infrared?

Bromic makes high-tech infrared patio heaters. What’s the advantage of infrared over other types of outdoor heating?

Heating an outdoor space is not easy: it’s not like you can warm the air in a confined space when you’re outside. Infrared radiation heats objects rather than the air, and this includes people. So, the infrared heater projects warmth onto you, and isn’t wasted by being blown away in the breeze.

This means that a Bromic infrared heater should keep you warm even if it’s windy (up to 13 mph). This is one of the reasons why Bromic is recognized as an upscale brand.

What Size & Weight Are Bromic Patio Heaters?

Bromic heaters vary in size and weight. If you want sleek and discreet, you can even pick up a flush-mounting kit, so you’ll barely notice your patio heater (until you feel its warmth).

The Bromic Tungsten Portable Gas heater (probably their signature design) is 85” tall, and throws out heat in areas up to 215 feet. The elegant Eclipse portable heater is a bit shorter and has a range of 144 feet, and is an absolutely stunning design.

Save floor space with a wall or ceiling-mounted design. The industrial-style Tungsten Electric Heater starts at just 44 inches wide.

Before you choose your patio heater, do some research. How much heat do you need? What area does the radiant heat need to cover? Bromic’s own technical specification manuals are mines of information. These break down each heater into its heating reach, lux levels, size, fuel options and mounting options.

Do Bromic Patio Heaters Come With a Warranty?

Yes, Bromic heaters come with a one-year warranty. Find out more about what this covers on the Warranty & Registration page on Bromic’s website.

Do Bromic Patio Heaters Also Come With Accessories?

Bromic does make a range of accessories for the patio heaters. These are mainly mounting kits such as brackets and poles, as well as recess kits.

You can also buy heating controls for your appliance. The smart controllers let you set your heaters remotely, and because they can control several units, are ideal for commercial use. Some of the heaters work with Bromic dimmer controllers, which let you set the lux level.

What Do The Reviews Say About Bromic Patio Heaters?

Bromic heaters are aimed at the more expensive end of the patio heating market. Naturally, with a higher price tag, you also get higher expectations! What do Bromic customers think about their heaters?

As an example, we looked at the Smart-Heat Tungsten Electric 4000W Radiant Infrared Electric Patio Heater on Amazon. It’s currently retailing at just over $800. Out of 103 ratings, it scored an average of 4.4 stars out of a possible 5 stars.

Customers liked the heat level and the fact it “kicked out heat” quickly. However, some other reviews claimed that it wasn’t hot enough: warmth is subjective, we guess, and probably also depends on what your local climate is like…

On the whole, Bromic’s customers like the quality and think that this particular model works well. The main complaint is that it isn’t easy to assemble, and you do need to make sure you get all the kit before attempting installation. However, it’s a good idea to get this sort of patio heater professionally installed, so hopefully, you can avoid the fiddly part.

How Much Do Bromic Patio Heaters Cost?

These are not the cheapest heaters. However, looking at the reviews, it seems that you do get the quality you pay for, and the designs are simply stunning.

Looking at the current costs on Amazon and BBQGuys, the 44-inch Smart-Heat Tungsten Electric costs about $816. You’ll also need the assembly kit on top of that, as it’s wall-mounted. So, is a freestanding heater better value?

To give you an idea, the freestanding Tungsten propane heater will set you back almost $2,000. It’s a lot, but it really is a fine-looking heater with a wide heat reach. It also has the neatest canister storage out there.

How Do I Use a Bromic Patio Heater?

How you use the heater depends on whether you’ve chosen electric or gas, and if the former, whether you’re using the controller or not.

Both the fixed electric and the gas heaters need wiring into an electric supply (by a professional and qualified electrician), as the latter has an electric ignition feature. Then, it’s simply a case of flicking the switch, and there you go, heat! The gas heaters don’t have a temperature control: they are either on, or off.

So, if you’re looking for a really simple-to-use patio heater, Bromic models really are low-maintenance and easy to operate.

Are Bromic Patio Heaters Easy To Maintain?

Bromic recommends cleaning the outside of your heater weekly when it’s in use, and monthly when it isn’t. Use a stainless steel cleaner to help protect it from corrosion. Don’t clean the inside parts, just the exterior.

Bromic patio heaters are designed for outside use; however, it’s worth remembering that they’re water-resistant, not waterproof. Think about this when you’re deciding where to install them.

They are also rust-resistant but this doesn’t mean that they won’t start to corrode with time: look after them and clean them regularly to prolong their working life.

If you live in a coastal area where the air is damp and salty, Bromic suggests buying a heater from their Marine range, which is designed to better cope with these conditions.

How Do I Store My Bromic Patio Heater?

Because they are wall or ceiling-mounted, it’s not as simple as packing your heater away for the winter. Try to mount them in a sheltered part of your patio, porch, or veranda, out of reach of the rain and wind.

If you have a portable heater, you can of course winterize it indoors. Disconnect the gas, clean the exterior thoroughly, and when it’s dry, store it in a safe place like a garage. Bear in mind that these are not cheap appliances, and make sure that your store has a lock.

Of course, as it’s a heater, you may decide not to winterize it at all! If this is the case, you can pick up generic patio heater covers on Amazon, which will protect it from the elements when it’s not in use.

Summary: Where Can I Buy a Bromic Patio Heater?

We’ve already mentioned that you can buy some Bromic heaters on Amazon. You can buy them from more specialist outdoor websites such as BBQGuys and Patio Products USA. The latter stocks a really comprehensive range.

If you’re purchasing a bromic heater or heaters for a business setting, contact the company to discuss your project. Bromic offers a free design support service to commercial settings such as hotels.
